As part of UC3M India Week<\/strong>,<\/a> dancer Karunya Srinivasan will present a performance of \u201cBharatanatyam,\u201d one of India\u2019s oldest and most renowned forms of classical dance, followed by a hands-on introductory workshop on its principles of movement and expression.<\/p>\n

The event will begin with a performance lasting approximately 20 minutes in the lobby of the Madrid-Puerta de Toledo Campus, which will also serve as the artistic conclusion to the roundtable discussion scheduled immediately prior. Afterward, the audience will have the opportunity to get a hands-on introduction to Bharatanatyam in a 90-minute introductory workshop. <\/p>\n

Originating in southern India, Bharatanatyam combines movement, rhythm, gesture, and expression to create a theatrical language rich in symbolism. This event invites participants to explore it from two complementary perspectives: first as spectators, and then through the direct experience of the body and movement. <\/p>\n

An opportunity to explore the richness of India’s performing arts, both from an aesthetic perspective and through hands-on experience.<\/p>\n

About Karunya Srinivasan<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Karunya Srinivasan” has a multidisciplinary background in psychology, expressive arts therapy, somatic education, and cognitive science. Her studies and work have been guided by her conviction that it is through movement that the body finds its meaning. <\/p>\n

She studied Bharatanatyam, one of India’s classical dance forms, for more than 10 years. She earned her bachelor’s degree in India with a triple major in Psychology, English Literature, and Communication, and completed a master’s degree in Cognitive Neuroscience at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. In addition, she is a certified practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method through the Feldenkrais Zentrum Biel in Switzerland. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. on body perception and movement with the I_mBODYlab research team at Carlos III University in Madrid. <\/p>\n

Her research interests include human movement, the perception of the body and action, the relationship between motor and cognitive processes, and how our movement relates to the spaces and bodies around us through mutual influence. She pursues her work through academic research, somatic education, writing, and performance. Her work has been presented at institutions such as the CCCB in Barcelona. <\/p>\n
