A Cinematic Comeback 2026. Film Series

A cinematic comeback is a cultural project sponsored by the Carlos III University of Madrid, in collaboration with the Getafe City Council, which aims to promote contemporary audiovisual culture among the university community and the general public, strengthening the bond between the university, filmmaking, and the social environment.

Launched in 2024, the project celebrates its third edition in 2026, establishing itself as a meeting place for students, film professionals, and the general public. Through a carefully curated selection of some of the most significant Spanish films from the past year, the film series offers a multifaceted, critical, and diverse perspective on contemporary cinema, with a particular focus on gender representation, the diversity of auteur perspectives, and the variety of narratives.

The screenings will take place at the Federico García Lorca Theater in Getafe, a leading cultural venue; this location reinforces the project’s inclusive nature, fostering connections between the university community and the citizens of Getafe through film as a cultural and social tool.

The series consists of eight screenings. After each screening, there will be a discussion with members of the films’ creative and technical teams, moderated by research faculty at UC3M , fostering an intimate, reflective, and contextualized dialogue about creative processes, production conditions, and the discourses that shape contemporary cinema.

For the first time, the event was produced by students in the Double Degree program in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication as part of the “Audiovisual Culture” course. The students handled curatorial, production, and communications tasks, coordinated by the course instructor and the team from the UC3M Culture Service.

The screenings will take place from January 26 to February 19, 2026, once the first-semester exam period has ended. Tickets for each screening will cost 3 euros, and there will also be a pass for all eight screenings for 18 euros, providing ongoing access to the series for those who wish to attend the entire program.

In addition, the program offers the possibility of credit recognition for UC3M students, upon registration through the Pasaporte Implícate and upon providing proof of attendance at the end of each screening.

A Cinematic Comeback invites you to watch, reflect, and discuss contemporary Spanish cinema from an open, diverse, and shared perspective. An opportunity to experience cinema beyond the screen and play an active role in contemporary audiovisual culture.

  • *LA FURIA* by Gemma Blasco. Monday, January 26, at 6:00 p.m. at the Federico García Lorca Theater in Getafe. Original version in Catalan/Spanish with Spanish subtitles. The event will conclude with a discussion with Gemma Blasco, director of *La furia*, moderated by Rosa San Segundo (UC3M).
  • OLIVIA AND THE INVISIBLE EARTHQUAKE by Irene Iborra. Tuesday, January 27, at 6:00 p.m. at the Federico García Lorca Theater in Getafe. Original version in Spanish. The screening will conclude with a discussion on the animation process with Iñaki Carbonell, moderated by Ana María Mejón Miranda (UC3M).
  • *El cautivo* by Alejandro Amenábar. Monday, February 2, at 6:00 p.m. at the Federico García Lorca Theater in Getafe. Original version in Spanish. The screening will conclude with a discussion with Fernando Bovaira, producer of *El cautivo*, moderated by José Manuel Querol (UC3M).
  • ROMERÍA by Carla Simón. Tuesday, February 3, at 6:00 p.m. at the Federico García Lorca Theater in Getafe. Original version in Spanish and Catalan with Spanish subtitles. The screening will conclude with a discussion featuring Mitch Robles, an actor in *Romería*, moderated by Asier Gil Vázquez (UC3M).
  • *TARDES DE SOLEDAD* by Albert Serra. Monday, February 16, at 6:00 p.m. at the Federico García Lorca Theater in Getafe. Original version in Spanish. The event will conclude with a discussion with Luis Ferrón, producer of *Tardes de soledad*, moderated by Juan Carlos Ibáñez Fernández (UC3M).
  • DECORADO by Alberto Vázquez. Tuesday, February 17, at 6:00 p.m. at the Federico García Lorca Theater in Getafe. Original version in Spanish. The screening will conclude with a discussion with Francesc Xavier Manuel Ruiz, screenwriter of Decorado, moderated by Tamara Moya Jorge (UC3M).

  • *LOS DOMINGOS* by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa. Thursday, February 19, at 6:00 p.m. at the Federico García Lorca Theater in Getafe. Original version in Spanish and Basque with Spanish subtitles. "GET INVOLVED" PASSPORT ACTIVITY

  • To receive credit for the event, you must register in advance using the “Pasaporte Implícate” form and have purchased the corresponding ticket through the Getafe City Council’s platform. Once the activity is over, please go to the staff on site to sign the attendance sheet.
  • Hours will be calculated individually based on attendance at each film; it is not necessary to complete the entire series.​ Each session lasts approximately three hours.
