In this edition, wwe will be joined by Belgian artist Stephan Goldrajch to create a community embroidery project. The goal is to create a monumental piece (6 x 3 meters) using the embroidery technique. An activity that typically evokes the small, the individual, and the domestic is reimagined in this urban initiative through a shift in scale, within a public context, and as a collective effort. Thus, in addition to the embroidery itself, a space for community gathering is created—a moment and a place to come together around manual labor, while we converse and share a break from the everyday in public space.

This event will take place at Plaza de España in Leganés and on the university campus. In addition to the general public and members of the university community who wish to participate, a number of groups that have been working on mental health issues will also take part. This gathering fosters connections that lead to greater social cohesion, where coming together through culture offers solace and new rhythms that focus on self-care and collective well-being.

He lives and works in Brussels. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, then at La Cambre in the sculpture department, and also at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. Inspired by ancestral traditions, rituals, and the techniques used by artisans, he is fascinated by human and social interactions. Using a crochet hook and various types of yarn—his favorite medium—he draws inspiration from the codes of life and learning, magic, stories, and legends; all the very real, often irrational elements that are part of the human learning process, and he reinvents them all.

Goldrajch often uses wool and cotton as the medium for his works. For the artist, weaving together colored threads offers him the opportunity to disconnect from external stimuli and enter his own private bubble. Creating through crochet becomes a ritual in itself. The result is a collection of talismans born of a long, ritualistic, and meditative process during which he weaves threads into complex compositions brimming with colors and textures. The imaginary world into which Stephan Goldrajch immerses us is populated by tiny textile and plant-like creatures; it is rich in fantasy, joyful, and even nostalgic, taking us on a journey into the past—to the games we played as children or the drawings we made.
