Description
To mark the 40th anniversary of Spain’s accession to the European Union, UC3M is organizing an event that combines theater and science outreach to introduce young audiences to some of the major social, political, and cultural challenges of the European project.
The day will begin with a performance of *CigÜEñas: Routes in the Wind*, a theatrical fable that transforms the sky into a stage from which to reflect on Europe, identity, and the power of community.
Through the reunion and coexistence of three very different birds—a migratory stork, a wise owl, and a blackbird—the play addresses the prejudices and rumors that threaten to divide the forest. A story that invites us to discover that, in the face of external threats, the best way forward is to learn to fly together as a single flock.
Following the performance, researchers from Carlos III University of Madrid will give brief, informative talks on the emotional journey of emigration, myths and misinformation related to the European Union, the work of historians, and the potential impact of artificial intelligence on public policy.
The event is part of European Researchers’ Night in Madrid.

- “From Institutions to Your Screen: Myths, Misinformation, and Truths About the European Union”, featuring Raquel Ruiz Incertis and Rocío Sánchez del Vas, researchers in the Department of Communication at UC3M.
- “The Work of the Historian”, with Montserrat Huguet, professor of Contemporary History and director of the “Francisco de Vitoria” Institute of International and European Studies at UC3M.
- “Would you let artificial intelligence determine your country’s public policies?”, with Juan Antonio Mayoral Díaz-Asensio, a researcher in the Department of Social Sciences at UC3M and co-director of the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence MACIES.
