The Project

Yu Depeng presents *Walking, Looking, Traveling, Living*, an audiovisual exploration of Madrid’s urban and social landscape. His multichannel video installation connects four everyday actions with memory, care, mental health, and connections to the local area.

Part documentary, part essay, and part installation, it explores the city, the homes of older adults, and intergenerational relationships. The university event will include a presentation followed by a discussion.

The artist

A Chinese video artist and filmmaker based in Madrid since 2019, Yu Depeng founded 9 Film Studio. He studied at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts and graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 2006.

Her work connects landscape, migration, memory, and identity through a contemplative lens. She has presented projects at Taikang Space, Ars Santa Mònica, Casal Solleric, Matadero Madrid, the National Museum of Anthropology, Visions du Réel, the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Lisbon, and the Prado Museum.

Notable works include “Round Sky and Square Earth” (2023–2024), “Window” (2024), “Diary of a Hermit” (2025), and the photographic series “Return from the Mountains” (2025).

Flipas 2026: A Laboratory of Urban Cultures

Under the artistic direction of Mateo Feijóo, Flipas is celebrating its ninth edition with 19 artists from eight countries. Its program features residencies, workshops, concerts, and performances that bring together disciplines such as sound art, performance art, dance, graffiti, spoken word, and film.

The project was launched in 2017 as a collaboration between Naves Matadero–International Center for the Performing Arts, the Goethe-Institut Madrid, and the Alliance Française, as part of the Franco-German Cultural Fund. Since then, it has expanded its network of participating institutions and venues.

In 2026, it will receive support from EUNIC Madrid, the SGAE Foundation, the Prado Museum, La Casa Encendida, Casa San Cristóbal of the Montemadrid Foundation, Carlos III University of Madrid, and the Ayuntamiento de Leganés, among other organizations.

With activities in both the center and the outskirts of Madrid, Flipas promotes exchange between artists and young people, shared learning, and cultural participation. Its decentralized approach seeks to broaden access to contemporary art and strengthen the ties between citizens, artistic practices, and public spaces.
