To mark Gandhi Jayanti, the annual commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth, the UC3M India Week is joining in the tribute to him with a presentation by Rubén Campos, a specialist in India and nonviolent political movements.

This session will offer an introduction to Gandhi’s thought and the role that nonviolence played in his conception of political action and social change, placing him within the context of India’s contemporary history and exploring the impact of his legacy beyond his own time.

Held on October 2, this event aims to include in the Week’s program a date that is particularly significant for India and to introduce the university community to some of the key elements needed to understand the historical, political, and ethical dimensions of Gandhian thought.

The event will also serve as a prelude to the closing performance of UC3M India Week, “Bhakti: Poetry of the Body—From Bharatanatyam to Contemporary Dance,”, by the Mónica de la Fuente Company, which will begin immediately afterward, at 7:00 p.m., in the same auditorium.

Rubén Campos

Rubén Campos is the Director of Programs at the Club de Madrid and a nonresident senior researcher at the Elcano Royal Institute. His academic work has focused, among other areas, on India, South Asia, and nonviolent political movements.

He has specifically researched the thought and life of Mahatma Gandhi and is responsible for the selection and introduction of *The Politics of Nonviolence*, published by Los Libros de la Catarata, which brings together a selection of Gandhi’s political and socioeconomic writings.
