UC3M India Week officially begins with the lecture “India’s Growth Story,” delivered by His Excellency Mr. Jayant N. Khobragade, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Kingdom of Spain and the Principality of Andorra.
The opening session offers an overview of India’s path of transformation and growth, as well as its growing presence on the international stage. From a diplomatic perspective, it will provide insight into some of the processes that have accompanied the country’s economic, technological, and social evolution, as well as the opportunities presented by this new phase in its relations with other countries, including Spain.
The title of the lecture is part of a line of thought that the ambassador has recently presented at various Spanish academic forums. In February 2026, he delivered a lecture at the University of Valladolid also titled “India’s Growth Story, ” which served as the opening event for the academic series linked to the 2026 Spain-India Dual Year.
The lecture will kick off the program of activities for UC3M India Week, an initiative of Carlos III University of Madrid that, from September 28 to October 2, offers a journey through contemporary India via culture, the arts, the humanities, economics, technology, and international relations. The program will take place on the Getafe, Leganés, Colmenarejo, and Madrid-Puerta de Toledo campuses.
His Excellency Mr. Jayant N. Khobragade has served as Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Kingdom of Spain and the Principality of Andorra since September 24, 2025. A career diplomat, he has been a member of the Indian Foreign Service since 1995.
Prior to his current posting, he served as India’s Ambassador to ASEAN from July 2021 to August 2025 and as India’s Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan from August 2013 to February 2017. Throughout his career, he has held diplomatic posts at the Indian missions in Moscow, Almaty, and Islamabad.
In India, he has held positions in various departments of the Ministry of External Affairs, including the Division of Disarmament and International Security Affairs, the West Africa Division, and the Passport Seva project. He also served as Joint Secretary for Foreign Affairs in the Department of Atomic Energy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and speaks, among other languages, English, Spanish, Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, and Russian.
