Music and Margaritas 2024
Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) is hosting the “Música y Margaritas” concert series, which will take place on Thursday, March 21, at 2:00 p.m. and on April 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the gardens of the Humanities cafeteria (Getafe campus). The event will feature performances by the bands Las Petunias, Aiko el Grupo, Yavy, and IreneGarry.
Las Petunias is made up of Cecilia Soto, Elsa Moreno, and Natalia Montes—three friends who, at age seventeen, decided to learn how to make music on the fly. Against all odds, it worked out, and here we are today: three girls who bring the house down wherever they go, who are loud and unapologetic, and who aren’t afraid to speak their minds and tell the world exactly how they feel through their songs.
Direct, concise, and to the point. That’s what Aiko El Grupo’s songs are like . So is the career of one of the most fun, unique, and lively bands to emerge from the Spanish indie music scene in quite some time. Formed in Madrid by Teresa Iñesta (guitar and vocals), Lara Miera (guitar and vocals), Bárbara López (keyboard and vocals), and Jaime Acosta (drums and vocals), the band has been delivering musical creations since 2020 that are the perfect blend of speed, rage, and melody. A fantasy come true, somewhere between punk and pop.
We’ll also be joined by the young Canarian artist Yavanna Cubas, who went by the name Yavy. Her solo project—in which indie melancholy and a style that’s as close to sarcasm as it is to generational reflection—is making her one of the hottest acts of her generation. The festival will be headlined by Alicante-based artist Irenegarry. Named by the British publication NME (New Musical Express) as one of the 100 essential emerging artists of 2022 and with KEXP premiering her latest single, she has been playing guitar since she was eight and writing songs since she was one. Her style is reminiscent of Rei Ami, Alice Phoebe Lou, Biig Piic, or even Lily Allen.
